Music Ministry

Mesa Verde's Music Ministry enhances worship services and entertains our congregation and community through twice-yearly concerts! More than 60 adults and youth participate in at least one of our six musical ensembles, which offer opportunities to singers and ringers of all ages and ability levels.

Though many churches classify their musical styles as “traditional” or “contemporary,” we don't limit ourselves! We believe there is artistic and spiritual value to be found in almost every genre of music, so on any given Sunday, you may hear us performing classical masterworks, African-American spirituals, hymn settings, gospel tunes, or world music—just to name a few!

The music ministry presents two free public concerts per year, one at Christmastime and one in the spring. Recent concert programs have included masses by Mozart and Haydn, a gospel celebration (with special guests, the Agape Voices of Praise), and a night of Broadway scenes and showstoppers. The Music Ministry also presents the annual Festival of Choirs services on a Sunday in June.

Choir Ensembles

Chancel Choir:  This 35-voice choir is open to all interested singers; no experience is required! We sing a wide variety of music and present two concerts per year. The Chancel Choir generally participates in worship services twice per month.
     Rehearsals: Thursdays, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Rejoice Chamber Choir: This 15-voice chamber choir is open by audition to experienced singers with music-reading ability. Rejoice's repertoire often includes Renaissance and 20th-century selections, and the ensemble specializes in a cappella singing. We generally perform in services once per month.
     Rehearsals: Thursdays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Youth Choir: The Youth Choir is open to interested singers in junior high school or high school. Repertoire includes everything from Handel to Broadway, and the ensemble usually performs in services once per month. Youth Choir members frequently take part in the Christmas Musical, and often perform in collaboration with the adult ensembles as well.
     Rehearsals: Sundays, 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Children's Choir: Open to children of all ages, the Children's Choir gives its participants an excellent foundation in the basics of singing, rhythm, and music-reading. The kids perform in services approximately once per month and present the annual Christmas Musical.
     Rehearsals: Sundays, 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Bell Ensembles

Sanctuary Bells: Our handbell ensemble plays on four octaves of Schulmerich bells and is open to any interested ringer. No prior ringing experience is required, but the ability to read rhythms is essential. The Sanctuary Bells perform in services once per month.
     Rehearsals: Mondays, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Chime Choir: Kids of all ages who have some eye-hand coordination and rhythmic understanding are encouraged to join our Chime Choir, which performs on three octaves of Suzuki tone-chimes. Chime-ringing is an outstanding introduction to music-reading and musical teamwork. The ensemble performs in services approximately once per month.
     Rehearsals: Sundays, 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
