Our Staff

Mesa Verde UMC is fortunate to be served by a small but dedicated staff. Senior Pastor Brent Criswell has been appointed to Mesa Verde UMC. He has overall charge of the church and its ministries. Shannon Cavanaugh is the Director of Youth Ministries. Also on staff are Barbara Infranca, Education, and Shannon Randall, Administrative Assistant. Matthew Martinez is the Director of Music Ministries, Ae Ja Oh is the Organist, and Bryant Nguyen is the Director of Sanctuary Bells.

A third-generation Methodist, Pastor Brent Criswell was born and raised in Whittier, where he attended high school. He attended Cal State Fullerton, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in sociology (and almost enough art classes for an art minor.) His seminary education was diverse and ecumenical at Pacific School of Religion, one of the nine Graduate Theological Union seminaries in Berkley, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree.

Brent has served churches in Westchester, Woodland Hills, South Pasadena, Laguna Niguel and, for the past fifteen years, La Habra.

Brent Met Marcy, his wife of 32 years, their senior year of high school, when they were each district youth members of Annual Conference in Redlands, he from the Whittier District and she from the Phoenix District. They have two grown children, Lindsay (who is married to Ian Port) and Blake. They all live and work in San Francisco.

Brent and Marcy enjoy sea kayaking, downhill skiing, snorkeling and travel, especially to anywhere there is a white sand beach and turquoise water.

Brent and Marcy make their home in Laguna Niguel where the “nest” is not quite empty due to the presence of a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier named Wesley.

Shannon Cavanaugh has been a member of MVUMC along with her parents Bill and Barbara Lacey for over 40 years.  As a youth Shannon participated on Mexico Work Teams, in youth choir and youth bell choir.  Some of the best memories from her childhood and youth were of her time in the church youth group.  She was an active youth member and she is still in touch with many of the friends she had during that time.  Shannon has been a volunteer with the youth of our church for many years so it was a natural transition for her to become our new Director of Youth Ministries.

Shannon has been married to her husband, Jordan, for over 26 years.  They have two daughters, Holly (25) and Julie (13).  She is a passionate home baker and frequently brings treats to church for members to enjoy!  Shannon and her family are avid travelers and look forward to a two-week trip to China this summer.

Shannon intends to continue the traditions of love and service by encouraging our youth to put their faith into action.
